I speak for a living so It surprises a lot of people when they find out I’m an introvert. And that means I find this time of year both enjoyable and also a little confronting.

Lots of end-of-year functions and parties, where everyone expects you to mingle and network making intelligent small talk. If you’re at all like me that can leave you feeling a little awkward.

I’ve found a couple of strategies for dealing with that and keeping the conversation flowing without trying to be something I’m not.

Do you find follow-up after a sales call frustrating? Sending emails and leaving voicemail messages that never get a response? That’s when the self-doubt starts to kick in.

It’s very seldom that the first sales conversation with a new prospect ends with a confirmed order. And when your follow-up efforts get no reaction it’s easy to second-guess yourself and worry about whether you’ve done something wrong or annoyed the prospect.
